Description
This vintage, very well used, cloth is the real traditional Bambara "bogolanfini", popularly known as mudcloth, using the hand-painting technique which distinguishes genuine mudcloth. The term "mudcloth" derives from the unique substance used to produce the dye for this cloth, fermented mud. The basic cloth is a relatively loosely hand-woven cotton, using larger gauge handspun cotton which is widely grown in Mali.
This beautiful vintage cloth has a repaired seam and a couple of unrepaired seams, typical manifestations of use and age. It measures 51 x 37" (129.5 x 94 cm)
